ht://Dig - Web search engine |
Description |
|
The ht://Dig system is a complete world
wide web indexing and searching system for a small domain or intranet. This system is not
meant to replace the need for powerful internet-wide search systems like Lycos, Infoseek,
Webcrawler and AltaVista. Instead it is meant to cover the search needs for a single
company, campus, or even a particular sub section of a web site. As opposed to some
WAIS-based or web-server based search engines, ht://Dig can span several web servers at a
site. The type of these different web servers doesn't matter as long as they understand
the HTTP 1.0 protocol.
ht://Dig was developed at San Diego State University as a way to search the various web
servers on the campus network. |

Summary |
A Perl data-structure
printing/stringification module |
Description |
|
You may find this module useful if you:
* are writing an application that must display perl data structures.
* want to store some data structures to disk, in either a compact or perl readable format
(Dumper outputs pure perl, so you don't have to invent your own portable data format, or
parse it; simply "do FILE" or read the data back in with perl and eval() it).
See the MLDBM module for an example of one such use.
* want a simple, yet powerful, persistence engine that can be quickly integrated into your
application, and is a breeze to debug.
* want a facility to make copies of data, or quickly find differences between data
structures. |

SQUID Internet Object Cache (Low
Virtual Memory usage version) |
Description |
|
The NOVM version of the squid will use
less memory to do the proxy job, at the expense of file descriptors. (NOVM stands for NO
Virtual Memory). If you are tight on memory on your proxy/cache server, this might be for
you.
Squid is a high-performance proxy caching server for web clients, supporting FTP, gopher,
and HTTP data objects. Unlike traditional caching software, Squid handles all requests in
a single, non-blocking, I/O-driven process.
Squid keeps meta data and especially hot objects cached in RAM, caches DNS lookups,
supports non-blocking DNS lookups, and implements negative caching of failed requests.
Squid supports SSL, extensive access controls, and full request logging. By using the
lightweight Internet Cache Protocol, Squid caches can be arranged in a hierarchy or mesh
for additional bandwidth savings.
Squid consists of a main server program squid, a Domain Name System lookup program
dnsserver, a program for retrieving FTP data ftpget, and some management and client tools.
When squid starts up, it spawns a configurable number of dnsserver processes, each of
which can perform a single, blocking Domain Name System (DNS) lookup. This reduces the
amount of time the cache waits for DNS lookups.
Squid is derived from the ARPA-funded Harvest project. |
